What is Staff Development?

All educational staff participate in professional development (PD) annually through outside experts speaking to faculty during training days. In any given year, about 60% of faculty engage in external PD funded through the School.

Why invest in professional development?

A meaningful investment in staff professional development funding is a critical driver of excellence, as it empowers educators and school staff to navigate a rapidly evolving landscape. With advancements in AI, flipped classroom models, and a fundamental emphasis on social-emotional learning, a supportive staff development fund ensures that TCS remains innovative and responsive to
diverse student needs.

Professional development opportunities include workshops, conferences and individual studies. Each enables the staff member to refine their teaching, bring fresh ideas into the classroom, and ensure all the students benefit from the very best education possible. Similarly, operational staff receive the chance to enhance their skills and exchange ideas with others in their chosen field.

Over the past year, professional development at TCS has enabled:

Six new advanced degrees; two staff members having completed Ph.D. studies, and four being enrolled in master’s programs

Six TCS staff members to participate in the CAIS Leadership program

Several teams to attend conferences providing learning opportunities as a shared experience

How can you help?

It starts with asking yourself: Which teacher, mentor, coach, and/or staff member made a meaningful difference in your life here at TCS? And with that, here’s your chance to make a gift to the staff development fund in the honour of these people. Dedicate your gift in the spirit of each of them with a testimonial message, photo, or video before May 1, 2026. These messages will be warmly shared with the honorees, and/or their families. We will also collect these tributes and display them during Reunion Weekend in May 2026.

Gifts can be made here, or by calling the Philanthropy, Alumni & Archives office at 905-885-1295. If you have any questions regarding this project or how to make your gift, please reach out to us at alumni@tcs.on.ca.

"So many TCS coaches impacted me during my time at TCS. I’ll never forget the incredible spirit and skill of Lauren Taylor and Lori Wills, coaching my Bigside field hockey team in ’91 and ’92. Their belief in every player made us all fall in love with the game. It’s been a privilege to come back and coach on the same field."
