Today, Jon’s leadership is focused on his pivotal role with the Unlock Remarkable Campaign Cabinet. His impact isn’t just defined by time spent and energy exerted, but by a significant personal donation of $50,000 to the campaign.

What makes Jon’s contribution particularly noteworthy is his forward-thinking approach to philanthropy. By partnering with PearTree Financial, Jon is utilizing flow-through shares to facilitate his donation in a highly tax-efficient manner.

Innovation in Giving: The Flow Through Advantage

While many are familiar with traditional cash or security donations, Jon’s use of the flow through share mechanism demonstrates a sophisticated way to amplify charitable impact. Here is how this innovative model works:

• The Mechanism: Flow-through shares are issued by Canadian resource companies to fund exploration.
• The Benefit: Investors receive significant tax credits, which a company like PearTree then helps pair with a charitable gift.
• The Result: This allows a much larger contribution than might be possible through traditional means, effectively reducing the after-tax cost of the gift while maximizing the benefit to the School.

Through the innovation and leverage of a flow-through donation, Jon was able to give TCS $50,000 for an after-tax cost of just $3,000.
